We are a committee of supporters of the BME Church in Owen Sound, working in partnership with the church board.
We are a group of descendants from the original 1839 congregation.
We represent the Legacy families of the early Black settlers in Grey County.
The BME has been a cornerstone for the Black community for over 150 years. It was designated an Ontario Heritage site in 1987. Rev. Thomas Henry Miller was one of the first ministers, he also co-founded Canada's longest running Emancipation Picnic in 1862, which has been held every year since in Harrison Park, Owen Sound, Ontario Canada
